Evansville, IN — A heartbreaking crash in Evansville claimed the life of 14-year-old Alexander Hessler and left four others injured after a speeding vehicle went airborne and struck a tree Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Orchard Road, where five people were inside the vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. Investigators report that the car became airborne for approximately 50 feet after cresting a hill, then crashed into a tree before coming to rest in the roadway.

Tragically, Alexander Hessler, a passenger in the rear seat, was ejected through the window of the car. First responders rushed him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The driver and three other passengers in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that speed is believed to be a significant factor in the crash. The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on Monday as Alexander Hessler, a student at Reitz High School. In a statement, the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) expressed their sorrow over the loss: “We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students, and our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends, and the entire Reitz community during this difficult time.”
The crash remains under investigation as the community grapples with the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
