HOUSTON, TX — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with capital murder following the fatal shooting of another 15-year-old, identified as Jacob Gomez, at an apartment complex on Bammel North Houston Road.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 2:15 p.m. on Monday at 10155 Bammel N. Houston. When officers arrived, they found Jacob Gomez, a juvenile Hispanic male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by first responders, Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the complex identified the suspect and directed deputies to a nearby apartment, where the teen was detained without further incident. He has since been booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Facility, facing capital murder charges.
Investigators believe the two teenagers were involved in a possible drug-related transaction that escalated into violence. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and gathered witness statements from residents of the complex, which helped establish the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that Jacob Gomez was not a resident of the complex, and at this time, no additional suspects are being sought.
“This is a heartbreaking case,” a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said. “Two young lives were forever changed in a matter of seconds — one lost and one now facing the consequences of an irreversible act.”
The shooting has sparked renewed concern among local leaders and parents about youth access to firearms and the growing risks of teenage involvement in violent or drug-related activity.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and coordinate with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
