A 17-year-old has been certified to stand trial as an adult in connection with the fatal stabbing of another teenager that took place while students were walking home from school in St. Louis last year.
According to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Darnell Warner, of the 2400 block of Hord Avenue, was formally certified as an adult by the St. Louis County Family Court on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Warner faces charges of Second-Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. He is currently being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond, with no 10% option allowed.

Investigators say the deadly incident occurred on March 12, 2024, near Hord Avenue, when officers responded to reports of a large fight breaking out in the area. Upon arrival, police discovered the victim, identified only as J.B., suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The teen was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly died from his injuries.
Detectives later determined that Warner was responsible for the attack, which reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between several students.
The St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office said the decision to try Warner as an adult reflects the serious and violent nature of the crime. The case remains under investigation as prosecutors prepare for trial.
