The Palmer, Alaska, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old Thor Nilsson, who died early Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle crash on the Glenn Highway.
According to the Alaska State Police, troopers received reports of a rollover accident near the 38-mile marker at approximately 3 a.m. on October 29. When officers arrived, they discovered Nilsson’s Ford F-250 pickup truck overturned in the center divider of the highway with extensive damage.

Authorities confirmed that Nilsson was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and investigators are continuing to piece together the events that led to the tragic accident.
Troopers noted that road conditions and other potential contributing factors remain under review. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Nilsson’s death marks the second fatal collision reported in Southcentral Alaska within days. On Monday, Anchorage police identified 84-year-old John Lund as the victim of a separate crash that occurred on October 20.
Family and friends have been left heartbroken by Nilsson’s sudden passing, describing him as a kind, hardworking, and adventurous young man who brought joy to everyone around him. Memorial service details will be announced by the family in the coming days as the community comes together to honor his memory.
