ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. — The community is mourning the tragic loss of 20-year-old Abhigyan Patel, who drowned while swimming off Bean Point on Sunday evening, August 31, 2025.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Patel went missing around 7 p.m. while swimming about 100 yards offshore in the Gulf of Mexico with another individual. Rescue crews launched a search that continued into Monday, when Patel’s body was recovered. His identity was confirmed after authorities notified his family overseas.
Patel was remembered as a bright, kind, and adventurous young man whose life was cut heartbreakingly short. Friends and loved ones described him as warm, intelligent, and full of potential, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by family members both in the United States and abroad, all of whom are devastated by his sudden passing.
