BENICIA, Calif. – A 23-year-old Benicia man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 780 early Monday morning.

The Solano County Coroner’s Office has identified him as Jacob Dortch.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash was reported around 7:45 a.m. on westbound I-780 near Southampton Road. According to CHP investigators, Dortch was driving a silver Toyota RAV4 when the vehicle struck a guardrail.

He was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the full investigation is ongoing, CHP officials indicated that unsafe speed is being examined as a potential factor in the crash.
