69-Year-Old Woman Killed in Crash Involving State Troopers in Cairo

A tragic accident in Cairo on Monday evening has resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman after her vehicle collided with two state troopers who were conducting a traffic stop. The crash occurred on State Route 23 around 5:23 p.m. on November 17, 2025.

According to the New York State Police, Sharon Torres of Cairo was driving when she struck the patrol vehicle from behind. The two troopers from the Catskill barracks had been standing outside their vehicle at the time of the collision. Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, while the troopers were injured but are expected to recover.
