The driver, who was traveling westbound, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No charges have been filed at this time.

Detectives with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit say Puma was walking in the roadway when he was hit. Speed, lighting conditions, and visibility are among the factors being examined.

“Mr. Puma was a familiar face in the neighborhood, always out walking,” said neighbor Denise Carter. “This stretch of Bryan Point is dark at night and has no sidewalks. It’s heartbreaking.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call the Collision Analysis Unit at 301-731-4422 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or the P3 Tips app. Reference case 25-0066056.

The investigation is ongoing.
