A 25-year-old man in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was taken into custody after allegedly murdering two men inside a residence and later telling police that a cockroach had instructed him to carry out the killings. The unsettling incident unfolded when deputies responded to reports of gunfire, finding two adult victims with gunshot and stab wounds, while three other adults and two children were also present in the home.
The suspect, Alexis Hernandez, described a series of strange and delusional events that he claimed led up to the killings. He told officers that he believed the property owner had been stalking him and installing hidden cameras throughout the home. Hernandez claimed that these actions fueled his growing paranoia. He further explained that he had received “an encrypted message in a cockroach,” which allegedly instructed him to kill the property owner, along with signs and voices that reinforced his belief that the crime was necessary.

In interviews with police, Hernandez said he felt “afraid for his life” and believed the two victims posed a threat to him. He admitted to shooting one man in the head and the other in the kitchen, then reloading his weapon and shooting each victim again. Hernandez acknowledged that the children in the house were witnesses to the crime but stated he had no intention of harming them.
Hernandez is currently facing two counts of murder. A judge has ordered him to remain in jail, citing the violent nature of the crime and the disturbing details that have emerged during the investigation. Authorities continue to examine the mental state of the suspect as they process the harrowing incident.
