The Alexandria community is grieving the tragic death of 18-year-old Edguin Zelaya-Mendez, who was fatally shot early Saturday morning on West Bacon Street. Officers responding to a noise complaint at an apartment complex near West Bacon and Hickory streets reported hearing gunfire and discovering Edguin unresponsive next to a parked vehicle. Despite immediate efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family and friends remember Edguin as a bright, kind-hearted young man full of energy, hope, and promise. Described as a devoted son, brother, and friend, his sudden loss has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him.

The Richmond Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. The Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.
