Police responded to reports around 7:45 a.m. and arrived on the scene shortly after 8 a.m. Preliminary investigations indicate that Palma, a junior at Walter L. Cohen High School, was walking to her bus stop when she was shot by the 20-year-old man, who subsequently took his own life. Palma was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
