The Alton community is mourning the tragic loss of Jason G. Mugge, 53, who was killed in a moped crash early Wednesday morning, September 17, 2025.
According to the Alton Police Department, the collision happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of College Avenue. Mugge was riding eastbound on his moped when he was struck by another vehicle. He was transported to a St. Louis area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the investigation is being led by the Alton Police Department with support from the Metro East Crash Assistance Team. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review.
Family, friends, and neighbors are remembering Jason as a kind and caring man whose life touched many in the Alton area.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until funeral services at noon on Monday, September 22, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
