AMARILLO, Texas — A 65-year-old Amarillo man died Tuesday evening when his Chevrolet Tahoe left Canyon Drive and slammed into a parked semi-trailer in a commercial yard, police said.
The crash happened just before 5:40 p.m. in the 3800 block of Canyon Drive near Moss Lane and I-27 in the Wolflin neighborhood.
Amarillo Police officers and Amarillo Fire Department crews arrived to find Craig Steven Long unresponsive inside the heavily damaged SUV. He was
pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

Sgt. Carla Burr of the Amarillo Police Department said Long had been traveling south on Canyon Drive when the Tahoe left the roadway for unknown reasons, went down a grassy embankment, traveled through a chain-link fence, and struck the unoccupied trailer parked inside a business lot at 3852 Canyon Drive.
Randall County Justice of the Peace Debbie Crump responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy, which is standard procedure in unattended fatalities.
The APD Traffic Investigation Squad is handling the case and is working to determine whether speed, a medical episode, distraction, or another factor contributed to the single-vehicle crash.
Long was a familiar face in the Wolflin area and well-regarded by friends and neighbors.
“Craig was just solid—always willing to lend a hand and never asked for anything in return,” said neighbor Robert Mendoza. “This one hurts.”
A small memorial of flowers and a cross has already appeared near the broken section of fence where the Tahoe came to rest.
