The quiet town of Angleton, Texas, is grappling with shock and grief after an early morning shooting claimed the lives of two children and left two others critically injured inside a home on South Velasco Street.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies rushed to the residence shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday after receiving multiple 911 calls. Inside, they discovered four young victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were airlifted to Houston-area hospitals, where they remain in critical but stable condition.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Oninda Romelus, who was taken into custody at the scene without incident. While investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute, officials have not yet confirmed her exact relationship to the children. The case remains under investigation, with the Sheriff’s Office working alongside the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office to determine potential charges.
Neighbors described the family as quiet and close-knit, saying the tragedy is almost impossible to comprehend. “Those kids were always outside laughing and playing. We can’t believe this happened here,” one resident said tearfully.
Sheriff Joe King called the case “one of the most heartbreaking incidents our county has ever faced,” urging the community to keep the surviving children in their prayers as they fight for their lives.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies, including local police and EMS, responded quickly to the scene, while grief counselors have since been deployed to support relatives and community members affected by the tragedy.
