Athens, AL — The Athens community is mourning the loss of Dezmond Rickman, a well-known rancher and former running back at East Limestone High School, whose life and legacy have left a lasting impact on family, friends, and all who knew him.

Rickman was admired for his dedication both on and off the field. As an athlete at East Limestone High, he was remembered for his determination, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Away from sports, his hard work on the ranch and devotion to family and community defined him just as strongly, earning the respect and admiration of those around him.
Loved ones recall Dezmond as a caring father, a loyal friend, and someone who filled every room with laughter and joy. His humor, storytelling, and ability to create unforgettable moments left cherished memories for all who shared in his life.
Tributes have poured in from those closest to him. Friend Madison Stinnett wrote:
“Dezmond, I pray you know how loved you are! We are going to miss you so much but we all know you are in a better place. Your babies will be taken care of and know every detail about you. They will hear all the stories of the stupid and funny things you did. We will miss you so much and never forget you! Watch over your little family and save us all a seat up there! We all love you so much.”
His cousin Brendan Flanigan also shared heartfelt words:
“Dezmond Rickman I have no words. I have been so proud of the man you have become. There is no way you are gone. A kind soul. My built-in friend and smiley cousin. Can’t believe this… God please guide our family through this difficult time. Auntie Chelle Flanigan, I’m so sorry. I love you. I know this is a difficult time. Rest in Heaven cousin. I love you.”
