Atlanta police are investigating a deadly shooting after a woman was found fatally wounded inside a vehicle late Wednesday night in northwest Atlanta — a crime that adds to the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence.
According to the Atlanta Police Department (APD), officers were dispatched just before 11:30 p.m. to the 700 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a car that had stopped along the side of the road.

Emergency responders attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed the woman had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Through the night, homicide detectives and forensic investigators combed the scene for clues — collecting shell casings, documenting evidence, and canvassing nearby homes and businesses for surveillance footage.
“We are still working to determine what led to this tragic shooting,” said Lt. Germain Dearlove, commander of the APD Homicide Unit. “Our detectives are following all available leads, and we urge anyone with information to reach out.”
Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been sitting in her car when she was shot, though investigators have not ruled out whether she was specifically targeted or if the shooting stemmed from an altercation. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed growing concern about rising violence in northwest Atlanta. “It’s terrifying — you can’t even sit in your car anymore,” one neighbor said. “Something has to change.”
Investigators are reviewing video footage from surrounding areas and checking nearby license plate readers to track possible vehicles leaving the scene around the time of the shooting.
The woman’s body has been transported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and formal identification.
