Attala County Community Mourns the Loss of John “Big John” Sisney After Fatal Highway 14 Crash

The community of Attala County is grieving the loss of John “Big John” Sisney, 59, of Ethel, Mississippi, who tragically died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 14 near County Road 5202 on Friday evening, September 19, 2025.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Sisney’s vehicle veered off the road and struck several trees. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say no other vehicles were involved, and an investigation is underway to determine what caused the accident.

Affectionately known as “Big John,” Sisney was a beloved member of the community, remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him. Friends and neighbors describe him as a man of integrity, always ready with a smile or a helping hand.

“Big John was more than just a neighbor — he was family to many of us,” said one resident. “His warmth and laughter will be sorely missed.”

Funeral arrangements have been announced as follows:

Wake: Monday, September 22, 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home, Kosciusko

Funeral Service: Saturday, September 27, 1:00–2:00 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Carthage

Burial: Jerusalem Baptist Church, Kosciusko, immediately following the service

Community members are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a man whose compassion and dedication left an indelible mark.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reminds motorists to drive with caution on rural roads, especially at night, as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continues.

John “Big John” Sisney will be remembered for his generosity, his laughter, and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
