The Auburn University community and the city of Gadsden are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-year-old Elizabeth Barnes, who died following a collision on U.S. Highway 411 Thursday evening.

The Crash
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the accident happened near mile marker 223, just north of Turkey Town. Barnes was driving a Lexus SUV when she struck the rear of a Freightliner log truck traveling ahead of her.
Emergency responders rushed her to a Gadsden hospital, but despite extensive efforts from medical staff, Barnes later died from her injuries.
