
A 24-year-old Augusta man died early Saturday morning after being shot on the 1300 block of 10th Street, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and a person struck at approximately 10:55 p.m. on November 21. Upon arrival, law enforcement secured the scene and began their investigation.
The victim was identified as Heavaughn Leigene Brooks, who lived on the 2500 block of Porter Street in Augusta. Authorities stated that Brooks had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle before deputies arrived. Despite efforts to save him, Brooks was pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m. on November 22.
The case has been upgraded to a homicide, and the investigation is ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time.
