DORA, Ala. — Two people are dead following an apparent murder-suicide late Monday night in Dora, Alabama, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 3500 block of White Road around 11:41 p.m. on September 1, 2025, after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 51-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders with Corner Fire & Rescue pronounced both victims deceased at the scene. The male suspect has been identified as 55-year-old Elton James Barks.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
