Azusa, CA – The Azusa Pacific University community is mourning the sudden passing of Terra Whitaker, a student-athlete and member of the 2023 women’s volleyball roster, who died unexpectedly over the weekend.

Whitaker, a business analytics major with honors in humanities, was widely admired for her dedication both in academics and athletics. As an outside hitter for the Cougars, she was known for her athleticism, determination, and the positive energy she brought to her team.
Originally from Eastvale, California, Whitaker graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School before joining Azusa Pacific. Friends and teammates remember her as vibrant, compassionate, and full of life.
Outside the court, she enjoyed spending time at the beach, traveling during the summer, and playing pickleball with friends. Her sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her teammates, classmates, and community.
“Terra brought joy and light to every room she walked into,” one teammate shared. “She was more than a teammate—she was family.”
The university has extended counseling and support services to students and faculty affected by the loss. Further plans to honor Whitaker’s memory will be announced in the coming days.
