Belfast – The academic community at Belfast Metropolitan College is in mourning following the sudden passing of Stephen O’Hanlon, a highly respected teacher whose dedication to education and commitment to his students left a lasting legacy. He died on October 1, 2025, leaving colleagues, students, and family devastated.

Mr. O’Hanlon was celebrated not only as a gifted educator but also as a devoted family man. He is lovingly remembered as a husband to Geraldine, a father to Stephanie, Patrick, and Katie, and a proud grandfather to Darcy, Jack, and Jacob. His influence extended beyond the classroom, touching the lives of many who admired his wisdom, guidance, and kindness.

Funeral Arrangements

The family has confirmed that Mr. O’Hanlon will repose at his late home beginning Friday, October 3, with visiting hours from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Requiem Mass is scheduled for Monday, October 6, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Gerard’s Church, Antrim Road, followed by burial at Greencastle Cemetery.
