The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of a deadly single-vehicle crash early Monday morning as 30-year-old Oscar Davila.

San Antonio Police said the collision happened just before 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Moursund Boulevard, near East Ashley Road. According to preliminary findings, Davila was driving a Dodge Durango at a high rate of speed when he lost control, struck a guardrail and a utility pole, and then careened into a drainage ditch where the SUV caught fire.
Emergency crews arrived quickly but were unable to save Davila, who was trapped inside the burning vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreckage temporarily disrupted traffic as firefighters extinguished the flames and cleared the area. Investigators believe speed played a major role in the crash, but they are also looking into other possible factors such as mechanical failure and road conditions. Authorities have not yet determined whether Davila was wearing a seatbelt.
Neighbors expressed concern about safety along Moursund Boulevard, saying speeding is a common issue, particularly during the early morning hours.
The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Davila’s remains have been released to his family as they prepare funeral arrangements.
SAPD continues to investigate and is reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras. Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the department’s traffic investigations unit.
This tragedy adds to a recent string of traffic-related deaths in the San Antonio area and serves as a reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving. Police are urging motorists to slow down, stay alert, and prioritize safety on the roadways.
