Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Birmingham’s Graymont neighborhood late Tuesday night that left 33-year-old Tedarius Montez Seawright dead.
Officers responded around 11:50 p.m. to the 1400 block of 4th Court West, near Legion Field, following reports of a possible break-in and gunfire. Upon arrival, Seawright was found unresponsive on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the incident stemmed from an altercation between Seawright and a former friend. Preliminary reports indicate the second man involved went to an apartment, where a heated confrontation escalated into gunfire. The suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He is being held under a standard 48-hour hold while authorities determine whether charges will be filed.
Police are continuing to piece together the sequence of events, interview witnesses, and examine evidence to determine if the shooting was premeditated or a spontaneous escalation.
The Graymont community, already on edge from recent incidents of violence, expressed concern over the latest fatal shooting. Seawright’s death adds to Birmingham’s rising homicide count this year, underscoring ongoing challenges with gun-related crime.
