VICKSBURG, Miss. — Authorities are investigating after the body of a man was found hanging from a tree Monday morning in a wooded area close to the Ameristar Casino.

Warren County Coroner Doug L. Huskey identified the victim as Corey Zukatis, 36, a Brandon resident who had been experiencing homelessness.
Discovery Near the River
The grim discovery was made around 10:30 a.m. by a passerby walking near the casino’s property line, not far from the Mississippi River. Emergency crews and sheriff’s deputies responded quickly, securing the site while investigators examined the scene.
The location — a patch of woods between the casino and the river — was cordoned off for several hours as officers from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Vicksburg Police Department processed evidence.
Investigation Underway
Officials have not released details on the circumstances of Zukatis’ death, and it remains unclear whether foul play is suspected. Coroner Huskey said further results from the medical examiner will help determine the official cause and manner of death.
Law enforcement officers are also reviewing nearby surveillance footage and speaking with people who may have seen Zukatis in the hours before his body was found.
