DUNBAR BOROUGH, Pa. — The search for a missing 9-year-old girl came to a heartbreaking end Thursday morning when authorities confirmed that Renesmay Eutsey was found dead in the Youghiogheny River near Smithton, Westmoreland County.
The tragic discovery was made around 5:30 a.m., just hours after law enforcement and volunteers continued their urgent search efforts. Renesmay had last been seen around 2 a.m. Wednesday on the 100 block of 3rd Street in Dunbar Borough, Fayette County.
In a shocking turn, Pennsylvania State Police announced that Renesmay’s adoptive mother, 31-year-old Kourtney Malinda Eutsey, has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the young girl’s death. Officials have not disclosed what evidence led to the charges but confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The case has shaken the small community, where grief and outrage have been palpable. Residents gathered near the river following the discovery, leaving flowers and prayers in memory of the child.
