Todd Lane Hunskor, 53, of Bottineau, died by suicide Wednesday evening, multiple sources close to the investigation confirmed today. The death comes just four days after Hunskor was arrested and charged with one count of corruption or solicitation of a minor (victim over 15), a Class A misdemeanor in North Dakota.
Hunskor was taken into custody on November 17 following execution of a federal search warrant at his residence on Sunset Bay Road and at his 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The charges stemmed from an October 14 incident in the employee parking lot of Sky Dancer Casino near Belcourt, where surveillance cameras captured a 16-year-old boy entering the back seat of Hunskor’s truck for approximately 13 minutes. Court documents state the vehicle rocked repeatedly and clothing appeared to be removed.
According to the probable-cause affidavit, the juvenile told forensic interviewers he met Hunskor on X (formerly Twitter) and later exchanged sexually explicit messages and photos. The teen said Hunskor arranged the parking-lot meeting and had prepared the truck’s rear cabin with folded-flat seats, a blanket, and a pillow. The boy reported Hunskor told him, “I like young boys, but I wait until they turn 18,” despite the teen being only 16 at the time.
During the November 17 search of Hunskor’s vehicle, agents located condoms, lubricant, adult novelty items, and a feminine hygiene product. Hunskor invoked his right to counsel when agents attempted to interview him and was booked into the Bottineau County Jail.Hunskor’s wife told investigators the couple had not been sexually intimate “in many years” and that she previously discovered him using the gay/bi dating app Grindr and a secret “burner phone” while they lived in Minot.
Authorities have not released details on the manner of Hunskor’s suicide. The Rolette County State’s Attorney’s office confirmed the criminal case will be dismissed due to the defendant’s death. The 16-year-old victim has not been identified. Counseling services have been made available through local tribal and county resources.
