The Assumption College School (ACS) community in Brantford, Ontario, is mourning the devastating loss of Jake Maher — a cherished former football captain, teammate, and friend — who tragically lost his life in an accident on Monday, October 6.
Jake, a proud ACS graduate, was known for his leadership, kindness, and unwavering positivity. His impact extended far beyond the football field, where he inspired teammates and coaches alike with his determination, energy, and genuine character.

Former ACS Lions Football coach Jason Nagy shared a heartfelt message reflecting the profound grief felt by many:
“I’ve been struggling since hearing about Jake’s passing. He was a pleasure to coach — a true leader, a great teammate, and an even better person. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Once a Lion, always a Lion.”
The ACS Lions Football program also released an emotional tribute, describing Jake as “the embodiment of what it means to be a Lion — a fierce competitor, a loyal friend, and a natural leader who lifted everyone around him.”
Maher played a pivotal role in leading the Assumption Senior Football Team to victory in the 2023 OFSAA Northern Bowl Championship, leaving an enduring mark on the school’s athletic history and community spirit.
As news of his passing spread, tributes flooded social media from friends, classmates, and teachers, all remembering Jake’s contagious enthusiasm and his ability to bring people together.
