CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge man was killed Monday night in a tragic sequence of events that began when a truck crashed into a residential porch and severed a utility pole, authorities said.
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Armond Hayward III, a lifelong resident of the community.

What Happened
Cambridge Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Locust Street around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, December 8, following reports of a crash.
Officers arrived to find a red pickup truck that had struck the front porch of a home. The crash also sheared a nearby utility pole in half, leaving live electrical wires down across the street.
Approximately 25 feet from the vehicle, emergency personnel found Armond Hayward III unresponsive on the sidewalk. Investigators and witness accounts indicate he was electrocuted by the downed power lines. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Community Mourning
The Cambridge Police Department is investigating the crash in coordination with Delmarva Power. A preliminary cause for the initial collision has not been released.
