Authorities have identified 34-year-old Eric Scott Dugger of Newton as the motorcyclist who died in a crash Tuesday evening in Catawba County.
The collision occurred around 5:10 p.m. on September 9 at the intersection of NC 10 and Shiloh Road. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Dugger was traveling east on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle when a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, attempting a left turn from Shiloh Road, pulled into his path.
The Silverado was driven by 55-year-old Troy Lawrence Griffith of Cumming, Georgia. Dugger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while Griffith was unharmed.
Investigators have determined that neither speed nor impairment contributed to the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.
Griffith has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield the right of way. Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
