A 64-year-old woman from Catbalogan City, Samar, has tragically lost her life after her house collapsed in the midst of Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-Wong) early Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Fe Paroni Resco, a resident of Purok 6, Barangay 3, had initially evacuated with her family but returned home to rescue her pet cats and chickens, which she was raising for sale.
Relatives who spoke to Calbayog Journal revealed that strong winds and heavy rains were already battering the city when Resco went back to her home. Her house, constructed from light materials, was destroyed around 2:00 a.m. when it was struck by a neighboring house that had also been toppled by the violent winds.

Family members shared that Resco managed to send a message to her grandchild moments before the tragedy, pleading for help after the wooden footbridge near their home collapsed. Despite immediate efforts to locate her, the darkness and dangerous conditions prevented relatives from finding her in time.
At daybreak, rescue teams discovered Resco’s body among the rubble. The local authorities, including PLt Col Normal Ala, Chief of Police at the Catbalogan City Police Station, expressed their condolences to the grieving family and reminded the public of the importance of prioritizing safety during severe weather events.
Typhoon Uwan brought torrential rains and violent winds across Samar, triggering widespread evacuations and extensive property damage in several barangays. The community is now left to mourn the loss of Resco, a woman who bravely attempted to protect her animals in the face of the storm’s deadly force.
