The Ambassador Bridge is currently closed to Canada-bound traffic as Windsor police carry out an investigation.
In a media statement, the Ambassador Bridge Command Center reported that the closure stems from an incident involving the Canada Border Services Agency.
According to reports, the officer involved died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and the death has been ruled a suicide. Traffic headed to Canada is being diverted to the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, with police indicating this reroute may last for an “indeterminate period.”
“It is an active investigation, and there is no threat to public safety,” stated Gary Francoeur, director of Corporate Communications for the Windsor Police Service. Traffic traveling from Canada to the United States remains unaffected.
In the wake of this tragic incident, we extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this heart-wrenching loss. As they grapple with the indescribable pain of bidding farewell to their loved ones, we share in their sorrow and stand in solidarity during this time of profound grief.
