Albert Sturgill Jr Shot Dead; CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — Prosecutors have upgraded charges against a Crossville man following the death of a victim in a downtown shooting that unfolded Friday evening.

District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway confirmed Saturday that 42-year-old Eric Brandon Garrison, of Crossville, is now facing a charge of second-degree murder. The victim, identified as 62-year-old Albert Darrell Sturgill Jr., succumbed to his injuries at a hospital Saturday afternoon after being shot during the altercation. Garrison was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder.
The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, August 22, near the intersection of North Main Street and Fourth Street, directly across from the Cumberland County Courthouse. According to investigators, the confrontation began in the roadway and quickly escalated into gunfire.
Authorities say the incident was witnessed by multiple bystanders, several of whom recorded portions of the confrontation on their cellphones. Prosecutors have confirmed those recordings are now being used as part of the case evidence.
Garrison remains in custody at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bond as the Crossville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continue their investigation into the deadly shooting.
The case has shaken the Crossville community, given its proximity to the courthouse and the number of witnesses who saw the altercation unfold in broad daylight. Prosecutors have indicated that further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
