CHICAGO, Ill. – A 22-year-old man is facing felony charges after authorities say he fatally shot his girlfriend during a domestic altercation on the city’s South Side earlier this summer.

Chicago police announced that Xavier Tousant has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the June 27, 2025, killing of 20-year-old Makayla Dadon.
The deadly incident unfolded near the intersection of 54th Street and Prairie Avenue, where witnesses reported seeing the couple arguing shortly before gunfire erupted.
Responding officers initially arrived at the wrong location following early reports of a shooting, delaying their response by more than 15 minutes. When police finally reached the correct address, they discovered Makayla with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the confrontation between the couple escalated into violence, ending in the young woman’s tragic death. Tousant was later taken into custody and is being held ahead of a detention hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
The case remains under review by both the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal dispute.
