The Chicago community is mourning the tragic loss of 22-year-old Courjanae Unique White, affectionately known as “Ja’nae” or “TA’nae,” who was fatally shot during a double shooting on the city’s West Side this past weekend.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 4, 2025, around 8:10 p.m. near a gas station at Roosevelt Road and Independence Boulevard. Chicago Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two victims at the scene.
Courjanae was found unresponsive with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Officers immediately began CPR before she was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A second victim, a 26-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
