Mobile County, Ala. — Authorities in Mobile County are investigating the fentanyl-related overdose death of Kailin Laporte, whose tragic passing has been tied to drugs supplied by two individuals now in custody. The case highlights both the relentless toll of the opioid epidemic and the determination of law enforcement to hold traffickers accountable.
According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the Chickasaw Police Department requested assistance on August 25, 2025, around 8:15 p.m., after reports of a possible overdose at a residence on 464 8th Avenue in Chickasaw. When deputies arrived, they found Laporte deceased. Preliminary findings revealed fentanyl, the highly potent synthetic opioid, as the likely cause of death.
Investigators immediately launched a probe into how the drugs reached the victim. Through interviews and evidence collection, authorities identified Payton Beason (DOB: 08/11/2000) and Tyler Thompson (DOB: 12/29/1993) as the individuals responsible for supplying the fentanyl to Laporte.
Deputies located both suspects at a hotel in Saraland, where they were taken into custody without incident. A search of the hotel room uncovered drug paraphernalia, glass pipes, cash, and a white powder believed to be narcotics, linking the pair further to illegal drug activity.
During questioning, Beason allegedly admitted that she sold fentanyl directly to Laporte, while Thompson acted as her driver, transporting her to the Chickasaw residence to complete the sale.
Authorities have since filed multiple charges:
Payton Beason faces charges of two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Manslaughter, Possession/Receiving Controlled Substance (warrant), and an additional Possession of a Controlled Substance charge filed by the Saraland Police Department.
Tyler Thompson has been charged with Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Both suspects remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch issued a stern response following the arrest, underscoring his office’s commitment to pursuing drug dealers fueling the fentanyl crisis.
“I promised to go after these drug dealers who are selling and trafficking fentanyl,” Sheriff Burch said. “We will continue to go after these people and work with the District Attorney’s Office in making sure they are prosecuted and held accountable for any and all deaths that occur due to their negligence.”
The death of Kailin Laporte has shaken the Chickasaw community, shining a harsh light on the devastating impact of fentanyl. Even a minuscule dose of the drug can be lethal, and its easy accessibility has worsened the opioid epidemic throughout Alabama and beyond.
