The Collingwood Football Club and the wider Australian community are mourning the passing of David Galbally AM KC, a highly respected barrister and lifelong supporter of Collingwood, who died peacefully at the age of 74 surrounded by family.

A towering figure in both law and sport, Galbally was renowned for his sharp legal mind, unwavering integrity, and deep compassion. Over the course of his distinguished career, he became one of Australia’s most prominent silks, consistently championing fairness and guiding countless individuals through the complexities of the legal system.
Appointed to the Collingwood board in 1974, Galbally served as a director for eight years. His role, however, extended far beyond administration. He was deeply invested in player welfare, offering personal support and guidance to athletes and staff, and helping to foster a culture of care within the club.
For more than 50 years, Galbally provided honorary legal advice to Collingwood, earning the trust and respect of generations of administrators and board members. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, the club awarded him Life Membership in 2023.
Collingwood officials described him as much more than an advisor, remembering him as a mentor, confidant, and friend whose generosity and wisdom left an indelible mark.
Beyond his professional achievements, Galbally was celebrated for his humility, kindness, and humanity. He was not only a formidable barrister but also a man who inspired and supported those around him, both in and out of the courtroom.
