The Essex community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Thomas Michael Pratt, a bright and joyful 7-year-old whose sudden and unexpected passing on October 30, 2025, has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow.
Thomas, remembered for his boundless curiosity and infectious laughter, was described by loved ones as “the kindest, most loving, and happiest little boy.” Known for his imagination and sense of wonder, he was an aspiring magician, a devoted teammate on his t-ball, basketball, and soccer teams, and a gentle role model to his younger cousins.

He loved stories and reading time with his mother, often insisting on “two books before bed,” and cherished quiet moments watching movies while cuddled up with his family and cats—proudly calling himself a “cat guy.” Thomas also enjoyed golfing with his dad and uncles, and spent countless joyful hours with his grandparents—building Lego sets at his Grandma and Grandpa Pratt’s, or combing the beach for fossils and lake glass at his Grandy and Papa’s.
“Thomas had an endless curiosity and a love for every moment,” his family shared. “He was full of life, laughter, and heart.”
Though the cause of his sudden death remains unclear, the family is taking comfort in knowing that Thomas’s legacy continues through an act of incredible generosity. In his final hours, Thomas became an organ donor, and his heart, liver, and kidneys have already saved or transformed the lives of at least four people.
“Even in tragedy, Thomas found a way to shine his light,” his great-aunt and great-uncle, Henry and Katrina Antonovich, said. “He gave the ultimate gift—the gift of life.”
A service in memory of Thomas will be held at Holy Family in Essex on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life next door until 7:00 p.m. All who knew Thomas or wish to honor his memory are welcome to attend.
As the Pratt family and the wider community mourn this unimaginable loss, they are also celebrating the extraordinary kindness and spirit of a little boy whose heart continues to beat on—in more ways than one.
