Detroit, MI – The preliminary examination for three men accused in the heartbreaking drive-by shooting that claimed the life of 6-year-old Rylee Love continued today in Detroit’s 36th District Court, as the community seeks justice for the young victim struck by a stray bullet in his own home.
Demontrel Wilson, 30, Deonate Cherry, 28, and Terrance Blue, 28, appeared before the court on December 3, 2025, for the second day of hearings following an initial session last month. The trio faces serious charges including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree murder, conspiracy to discharge a firearm from a vehicle causing death, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle causing death. Additionally, Wilson and Blue are charged with felony firearm possession.

The incident unfolded on the evening of July 27, when Detroit police responded to reports of gunfire near Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. Authorities allege the suspects fired multiple rounds from a moving vehicle toward a group of people, with one bullet penetrating a nearby residence in the 17400 block of Anglin Street. Inside, young Rylee was playing in a bedroom when he was fatally wounded in the head. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
In emotional testimony from the first day of the exam, Rylee’s mother, Tarhesa Love, described the harrowing moment she heard a “loud pop” and found her son unresponsive. “I pick him up, and I scream his name. He doesn’t reply,” she recounted, highlighting the profound loss felt by the family.
Arrested three weeks after the tragedy, the suspects’ case has drawn significant attention, underscoring ongoing concerns about gun violence in the city. Today’s session, commencing at 1:30 p.m., aims to determine if sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial, with the judge expected to rule following additional witness accounts.
