Authorities have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s deadly sniper attack outside a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.

The shooting left four people dead, including Jahn, and has raised urgent concerns about security at federal facilities. Investigators said unspent cartridges marked with “ANTI-ICE” were found near Jahn’s body, pointing to an apparent ideological motive.
The attack unfolded around 6:40 a.m. on September 24 near the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway. Police say Jahn positioned himself on a rooftop overlooking the ICE facility and opened fire on an unmarked van transporting detainees.
Three detainees were struck — one died at the scene, another later died at a hospital, and a third remains in critical condition.
As law enforcement closed in, Jahn turned the rifle on himself, suffering a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. “The suspect is deceased,” Dallas Police confirmed, noting the case remains under active investigation.
Federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, are assisting with the probe. While early evidence points to an anti-ICE ideology, officials have not confirmed a definitive motive.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is expected to speak alongside police leaders, while Congressman Marc Veasey called the incident “a senseless act of violence against vulnerable individuals,” extending condolences to the victims’ families.
The shooting has rattled the community and sparked calls for a review of security procedures surrounding detainee transport and federal buildings nationwide.
