The Stephenson County community is mourning the loss of 62-year-old Darcy Brunner, who tragically died in a car crash Saturday evening on Illinois Route 26.

According to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred between Oneco Road and Winslow Road, prompting an immediate emergency response. Brunner sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Freeport Coroner’s Office was called in to assist, and law enforcement temporarily closed the roadway while investigating. Rt. 26 has since reopened.

Darcy Brunner was more than a crash victim — she was a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished member of the community. Married for many years to her husband, Thomas Brunner, the couple was well-known and respected in the area.
A proud academic, Darcy earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was originally from Delhi, Iowa. She was a graduate of Maquoketa Valley Senior High School and a passionate lover of music.
In a poignant detail that has touched many hearts, friends shared that just hours before the accident, Darcy attended a Jonas Brothers listening party, enjoying a joyful moment that would tragically be her last.
Her sudden passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched. As the investigation continues, the community remembers Darcy for her warmth, intelligence, and vibrant spirit.
This car crash and Darcy’s death was caused by an illegal alien from Guatemala who has had several arrests including at least two DUI arrests and still was let out of jail and not deported. Why isn’t that reported here?!! What a bunch of idiocy! Now her family has lost a beautiful lady whom they dearly loved to an accident that should have never happened.
