Authorities in Iberville Parish are investigating a tragic shooting that claimed the life of Ernest Adams and left another individual injured Thursday evening at the Ridgewood Apartments in Maringouin, Louisiana.
According to Sheriff Brett Stassi, deputies were dispatched to the apartment complex shortly after 5:20 p.m. following reports of multiple gunshots. When officers arrived, they discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as Ernest Adams, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the injured victim’s identity or current condition.
Sheriff Stassi confirmed that the suspect remains at large, and investigators are actively pursuing leads to determine the motive behind the shooting.
“Detectives are on the scene processing evidence and speaking with witnesses,” Sheriff Stassi said. “We’re asking anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact our office immediately.”
The area surrounding Ridgewood Apartments was temporarily blocked off Thursday night as detectives collected evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for surveillance footage.
Friends and family members of Ernest Adams have taken to social media to express grief over his sudden loss, describing him as a kind, hardworking man and a devoted father.
“He was a good man and a great dad,” one relative shared online. “He didn’t deserve this.”
The fatal shooting has left the tight-knit Maringouin community shaken, with many calling for justice and peace as authorities continue their investigation.
