
A festive night turned tragic early Saturday morning when a violent shootout erupted at a party in southwest Houston, leaving one person dead and five others wounded.
The shooting unfolded around Vandalia Way near Anderson Road, just inside the Beltway, around 2:00 AM. According to Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir, the conflict began with a dispute between two or three individuals, which rapidly escalated into a full-blown gunfight.
Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. China B. Hewitt was pronounced dead at the scene, while five other victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
A suspect was detained at the scene and is being questioned by authorities as a possible person of interest. However, no firearms were recovered during the investigation. The party, which had a large number of attendees, is still under investigation. Detectives are interviewing witnesses to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal violence.
The incident has left the local community in shock as authorities continue to work towards understanding the cause of the deadly exchange.
