Wise County is in mourning after Treb McKinnon, a lifelong Decatur resident known for his big heart and tireless willingness to help anyone in need, was tragically killed in an accident late last week.
Authorities have not released specific details about the incident, but the Wise County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday that McKinnon died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The investigation remains active.

The loss has sent shockwaves through Decatur, where Treb was a familiar and beloved face. Whether he was fixing a neighbor’s fence, hauling hay for a friend, or simply stopping to talk on the square, people say he never met a stranger.
“He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back and then ask if you needed his boots too,” said longtime friend Cody Barnett.
“Decatur just won’t feel the same without him.”
A proud Texan through and through, Treb loved hunting, fishing, and anything that kept him outdoors. Family was everything to him; he was a devoted son, brother, and partner who made time for everyone he loved.
Coworkers described him as the guy who always showed up early, stayed late, and never complained, no matter how tough the job.
A steady stream of visitors has stopped by the family home since the news broke, bringing food and sharing stories that inevitably end in both laughter and tears.
“He had this deep laugh you could hear across the field,” one childhood friend posted online. “I’m gonna miss that sound for the rest of my life.”
Funeral arrangements are pending, but expected to be announced Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Wise County Youth Fair in Treb’s name, an organization he supported for years.
