The Denton community is reeling after authorities confirmed 24-year-old Luis Fernando Carranza as the victim of a fatal shooting outside a QuikTrip gas station early Sunday morning.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Carranza died from a gunshot wound to the chest. His death has been officially ruled a homicide. Police identified him as a Denton resident whose life was cut short in what began as a parking lot dispute.
Two Mississippi residents, 26-year-old Alfred Lamont Jackson Jr. and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Olivia Guster, are now in custody. Investigators allege Jackson shot Carranza during the altercation, while Guster participated in the assault. Jackson faces multiple charges including murder, aggravated assault, and evading arrest, with bond set at $2.1 million. Guster has been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond.
The confrontation reportedly started as an argument over right-of-way in the parking lot. Witnesses told police Jackson struck one of Carranza’s friends with a shovel before pointing a gun at both men and firing at Carranza. Guster is accused of attacking both Carranza and his companion during the fight.
Police were first alerted at 12:58 a.m. when a 911 caller reported a disturbance and gunfire at the QuikTrip on Eagle Drive. Officers arrived to find Carranza critically wounded. He was rushed to Medical City Denton but tragically pronounced dead at 1:19 a.m.
After the shooting, police located the suspects’ vehicle on West University Drive. Jackson briefly tried to flee on foot but was quickly caught, while Guster was detained without incident.
The Denton Police Department confirmed the investigation remains active as they work to piece together the full details of the violent encounter.
