Detroit Police Seek Public’s Help After Brazen Double Attempted Home Invasion on East Side

DETROIT – Detroit Police are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying two suspects who boldly disabled security cameras before burglarizing a home on the city’s east side last week, then returned hours later to try again.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, in the 19300 block of Devonshire Road near Bremen Street. According to investigators, the two men first approached the residence in broad daylight, deliberately smashing two exterior surveillance cameras to blind the homeowner’s security system. With the cameras destroyed, the suspects forced their way inside and ransacked the house, causing extensive damage before fleeing the scene.

Later the same day, surveillance from neighboring properties captured the same two individuals returning to the same address in a second attempted break-in. This time they were unsuccessful and left empty-handed.

“This wasn’t a crime of opportunity; these suspects took calculated steps to avoid detection and then had the audacity to come back just hours later,” said Sgt. Marcus Wayne of the Detroit Police Department’s 9th Precinct. “We believe someone in the community recognizes these individuals, and we’re urging them to come forward.”

Police have released clear still images and video of the suspects taken before they disabled the homeowner’s cameras. The footage shows two Black males in their late 20s to mid-30s, both wearing dark clothing and face coverings during the second attempt.

A $1,000 reward is being offered through Crime Stoppers for information that directly leads to the arrest and charging of the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Burglary Unit at 313-596-5540 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips should reference case number 2511260272.

Police say the homeowner was not home during either incident and no injuries were reported, but the repeated targeting of the same residence has neighbors on edge.
