Donegal High School Senior Joey Williams Tragically Killed in Lancaster County Crash

SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

Emergency crews were dispatched just after 2 a.m. Sunday to the 1800 block of Landis Road in East Donegal Township, according to Lancaster County emergency dispatch. Responders found a heavily damaged vehicle that had veered off the roadway. The driver, identified as 17-year-old Joey Williams, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved, and the Susquehanna Regional Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

A Student-Athlete Remembered for His Spirit and Leadership

Joey was more than just a student; he was a cornerstone of the Donegal High School basketball program and a friend to many. Teammates described him as the kind of player who lifted everyone around him — a motivator with a smile that could brighten the toughest practices.

“Joey was the energy of our team,” a teammate shared. “He made us laugh, encouraged us to work harder, and had a way of making everyone feel important.”

Teachers and staff also remembered him as respectful, diligent, and full of enthusiasm, whether in the classroom or on the court. Beyond school walls, Joey was known as a loyal friend and a devoted son and grandson, always willing to put others before himself.

Community Grieves With the Williams Family

The Williams family, deeply rooted in Marietta, Mount Joy, and across Lancaster County, has received an overwhelming outpouring of love. Tributes from classmates, friends, and neighbors reflect the deep impact Joey had in his 17 short years.

“Our hearts are shattered,” wrote community member Ashley Krick in an online message. “Joey had such promise and touched so many lives. Please keep his parents, grandparents, and the entire Williams family in your prayers.”

A fundraiser has been launched to help the family with funeral expenses and to honor Joey’s memory. Many see the effort as a way to give back to a young man who gave so much of himself to others.

A Legacy That Lives On

The Donegal School District has arranged grief counselors to support students and staff as they navigate the sudden loss. Plans for a memorial service and celebration of life will be announced soon.

Though his life was cut tragically short, Joey’s kindness, humor, and unwavering positivity leave behind a legacy that will not be forgotten. For his classmates, teachers, teammates, and community, Joey Williams will be remembered as a bright light whose spirit continues to shine.
