Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are examining the circumstances surrounding a Wednesday afternoon shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically wounded in the 4400 block of Milburn Drive, an unincorporated area of the county.
Authorities confirmed that the first 911 calls reached the Regional Communications Center at about 1:27 p.m., with multiple residents reporting active gunfire. Patrol deputies arrived within minutes and found an adult male already deceased. An adult female, suffering from life-threatening injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Investigators say she is expected to survive.

A single individual was detained at the scene for questioning. Investigators have not announced any arrests or criminal charges. Detectives are still piecing together what led to the shooting, and officials emphasized that everyone believed to be involved has been identified.
The Sheriff’s Office stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. A large law-enforcement presence is expected to remain in the neighborhood into the evening as crime scene teams continue processing evidence.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will publicly release the deceased man’s identity, along with the formal cause and manner of death, once next of kin have been notified.
