The Kane County Coroner’s Office and Geneva Police Department have identified the elderly couple who tragically died in a two-vehicle crash on Friday, September 5, at the intersection of Bricher Road and Fisher Drive.

Authorities reported that a 2005 Toyota Corolla, driven by 85-year-old Dennis White and carrying his 88-year-old wife, Ritsuko White, was attempting a westbound turn onto Bricher Road from Fisher Drive when it was struck by a 2020 BMW X3 traveling eastbound. The collision caused the BMW to leave the roadway, crash into a wooded area north of the intersection, and catch fire. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze.
Emergency responders from the Geneva Fire Department, Batavia Fire Department, and the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District assisted at the scene. Dennis White was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Ritsuko White was pronounced dead at the scene. Both were taken to the Kane County Morgue for further examination.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that both Dennis and Ritsuko White died from multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the crash. Toxicology samples were collected for additional analysis.
The BMW was driven by a 19-year-old man and carried three passengers aged 18 to 20. Two passengers were medically cleared at the scene, while one was transported to Delnor Hospital for evaluation. Authorities have not filed any charges at this time.
The Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Coroner’s Office, and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Officials extended their deepest condolences to the White family and all others affected by the tragedy, calling it “a heartbreaking loss for the community.”
