The community of Elgin, Texas is reeling after the tragic death of 18-year-old Jowell Wallace, who was fatally shot in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Police say officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Jefferson Cove, where Wallace was found with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later confirmed that 17-year-old Jayden Sherrod, an acquaintance of Wallace, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held as the case moves forward.
Friends and family describe Jowell as a kind, spirited young man who brought energy and joy to those around him. His untimely passing at just 18 years old has left a painful void in the lives of loved ones and the Elgin community.
